Know Thyself

Updated: Jun 30, 2020

Inscribed at the entrance to the Temple of Delphi, Socrates immortalized this pearl in his assertions, insisting that we must look at ourselves to make true progress in life.

It can be quite overwhelming though, can't it, to figure yourself out. Especially if you have a deadline such as job interview or a baby being born... a wedding. We want to be perfect for these roles, yet here we are: unsure, tired, worried, sick.

It's easy to blame someone else for your problems. "I'm tired because my kids don't sleep", "I'm sick because of my genes", "I can't concentrate because I have too many responsibilities". Not many people would argue with you over these statements, but do these statements solve your problems? And what is going to happen if you don't win the lotto? How long will it take for you to decide that it's worth a different look? For some people it takes for their children to grow up, or to loose their job, a car accident, or even till their death bed.

Why don't we take a different approach before disaster strikes, or we bury ourselves even further in?

A different approach is a change and as they say, A change is as good as a holiday.

Let's take a holiday from the usual construct in which we rationalize our problems. As Edgar Cayce said: The way of suffering is justly merited.

How many people out there have realized that when we justify our unhappiness we are still unhappy? When we justify our poor health, we are still unwell. Acceptance is one thing, justification to remain in suffering ....well, call it what you will.

So let's explore the tools that help us communicate more intimately with our own greater awareness, the subconscious.

The first is the gut. We are fairly familiar with the gut feeling, though not to be confused with paranoia. The gut feeling is safe and empowering. It simply says 'yes', or 'no' to your current thought, or circumstance. The science behind this is called applied Kinesiology and is a little more dynamic than labeled intuition. To use the gut feeling responsibly there is a little training involved, learning to observe and measure your physical responses in a controlled environment.

Meditation is a fantastic tool and so simple. You can start with 5 min slots. A daily practice enhances the use of the gut feeling.

Dreams are a favorite of mine, as a vivid dreamer myself, I have analysed the landscape of dreams for over 35 years. Dream work may be employed in hypnosis techniques. Understanding your dreams is easier than you may believe. Even the most mundane dream may be an important message when identified correctly. There are various levels of dreams that we dream, but the most important evaluation in a dream is the emotion that is identified. Observing how you are applying an emotion to your circumstance can release a lot of pain.

Pain may be your greatest messenger, but don't move deeper into it, instead stand back and observe it.

It is so important for us to understand pain as communication. It's an irritation that needs addressing. It may be physical, mental, emotional or ethical. It's a message to change because what you are doing, thinking or allowing to occur, is causing you irritation. So as you take your next proverbial pain killer, allow yourself to simultaneously be aware that you are quieting an inner voice that is speaking, calling out to you. Now, to be clear, I do not endorse trauma as learning. On the contrary, what I'm suggesting is that we balance denial with some awareness to start our journey towards freedom.

Freedom is where hypnosis can take you. Deep down to your inner voice, without pain and without denial. Quantum Healing Hypnosis is a technique that I use to help my clients listen to the voice of their subconscious, the ever diligent overseer of all our involuntarily physical processes. The intelligence that maintains your breathing, heart rate and a myriad of functions that compensates for your every exposure to the world - you can talk to that. You can trust it because thus far it has kept you alive and that is it's main goal - You.
